- This week China and the United States signed an agreement to reduce greenhouse gases. It calls for far more modest cuts than necessary to prevent catastrophic climate change. In the U.S., the cuts will be partially met by existing measures. Even if the cuts are small in the near term, it is a positive step because any serious long-term climate plan will require close cooperation between the U.S. and China.
