The Ninth Annual C&O Canal Mid-Winter Bird Survey will be next Saturday, January 20. The survey is coordinated by the DC Audubon Society and aims to survey bird life along the entire 184.5 miles of the canal. The canal is divided into 2-4 mile segments, each of which is covered by a small team of observers. Most miles are now assigned, but about thirty miles are still up for grabs. Any birders in the area who would like to participate should email canalcount@gmail.com as soon as possible.
